Process of Dental Bonding

Being a cosmetic procedure, dental bonding is used to fix small sections of your teeth that have been broken. This process isn’t usually recommended for larger areas that need to be fixed due to the strength of the material used in bonding. Bonding is a fast procedure that usually only takes one visit to complete because it is only fixing small areas such as a crack, chipped tooth, or an arising cavity.

First, it is necessary to make the tooth rough by using an etching solution. Making the area rough will allow there to be a stronger bond between the tooth and the resin material.

After the tooth is etched, the resin is picked out by our team to completely match the color of the tooth being worked on. Once the resin material is placed on the tooth, it is then shaped and cured with a special light to secure and harden the resin to the tooth. In some cases, many layers of resin will be placed and light-cured until the desired amount is obtained. It only takes a couple of minutes of light-curing for the resin to harden and attach to the tooth.

Lastly, once the resin is hardened, it is time to shape it to the desired look to match your teeth. Every step in the dental bonding procedure is completely custom to you and your teeth.
